My Garden

My 10th floor apartment faces southeast toward Albany, New York. I have only two windows, a small one in the bedroom and a large one in the living room, but I have plants throughout the apartment. Therefore, my garden of Eden supports plants requiring the full spectrum of light from full sun to darkness!

A southeastern facing window delivers about six hours of the milder morning sun which rises on the left side of the window, and at about noon retreats on the right side of the window towards the west.

The term “full sun” generally indicates from 6 to 12 hours of direct sunlight. Since the SE window has just six hours, plants requiring ¨full sun¨ may have a difficult time, but itś worth trying.

Moving away from a window furthers reduces the amount of sunlight a plant receives.  A plant more than 10 feet from the window is considered to be in shade. And I suppose, if a plant can´t even see a window, it is in the dark.
